One of the biggest lies perpetrated in and outside the church today is that you have to read your bible everyday.  Under the steeple we give our spiritual responsibility away to the man standing in front of the congregation.  Outside the church we are intimidated and overwhelmed with the words between the front and back covers. So we let it collect dust.  The bible is so very important, but reading it and understanding it are two different things.  Very few people including pastors read the bible everyday.  We come to believe that it is too difficult to understand or it’s just an old book of stories about a great teacher 2000 years ago.  The Bible is the Living Word of God.  It is the very Word of God written by men through the spirit.  The best thing I ever did for my walk outside of prayer is buying a One Year Bible.  I’ve read through the Bible five times in five years.  Not for a gold star, but to be closer to God.  To understand what Jesus does for a sinner like me.   And to have the right words to offer when someone else needs to hear or understand the hope of the Gospel.  Jesus has many hard sayings in the bible.  It’s hard to believe what it says.  But don’t let that keep you away.  You have a place to ask hard questions you can’t ask in church.  I won’t laugh or look down my nose at you because you think this is stupid.  I want to help you see and feel the power and grace of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.  Blow of the dust and let’s get started.  I’ll have a daily reading and discussion for anyone interested in going deeper inside what it means to read the bible.
